Ministry Officials Say Goodbye to Departing Ministers

PHNOM PENH: On his final working day as Minister of Information, Khieu Kanharith received expressions of gratitude and respect from his subordinates.

On August 18, Khieu Kanharith was remembered by hundreds of Ministry of Information officials for his words of advice and guidance.

He has been Minister of Information for 19 years, having served four terms since 2004. Prior to that, he has served as a Secretary of State starting in 1993.

Deputy Director-General of the Department of National Television of Cambodia (TVK), Or Leakena, wrote on Facebook that her respect for Khieu Kanharith has not changed.

"Today, the media family expressed their mixed feelings of sadness before leaving the workplace where he had worked in this field for most of his life," she said.

Over a dozen ministers are expected to resign their positions on Tuesday to make way for the next generation of Cambodian politicians. Many are being succeeded by their sons. Officials in the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training gave a wreath to pay tribute to Minister of Labor, Ith Sam Heng, who will also resign his position in a few days.

Minister of Interior Sar Kheng met with leaders and civil servants on August 17, and instructed them to be jointly responsible and to perform their duties well in the new government mandate.

Dr. Hun Manet will officially become the new Cambodian prime minister on August 22, the day after the newly formed National Assembly holds its first meeting under the presidency of King Norodom Sihamoni.
